About the Kansas Real Estate Exam

The Kansas real estate salesperson licensing exam is administered by Pearson VUE on behalf of the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC). Kansas has a unique two-phase education structure: candidates must complete a 30-hour Principles of Real Estate course before the exam, and a separate 30-hour Kansas Practice Course which must be completed within 6 months of passing the exam (as a condition of license issuance). The exam score is valid for only 6 months — one of the shorter windows among states.

The exam consists of 110 scored questions: 80 national (150 minutes) and 30 Kansas-specific (90 minutes). Kansas uses a scaled scoring system — a scaled score of 70 is required on each section. The exam cannot be taken online — all candidates must test in person at a Pearson VUE center. Kansas is a notable agricultural state with farmland and water rights issues that appear on the state exam.

Study Tips for the Kansas Real Estate Exam

Kansas has a very short state section — only 30 questions — which means every question carries significant weight. Know that the Kansas Practice Course (30 hours) must be completed within 6 months of passing the exam, not before it. The 6-month score validity window is also tested — it's shorter than most states. Kansas uses scaled scoring, so a 70 on the scale is not 70% correct. No online proctoring is available — all testing is in person at Pearson VUE centers in Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita.
