About the Arkansas Life & Health Insurance Exam
Arkansas insurance producer exams are administered by PSI Services LLC for the Arkansas Insurance Department (AID). Life and Health are separate exams, each with its own content outline, and the two can be scheduled together. You must complete 20 hours of AID-approved pre-licensing education for each line (Life; Accident, Health and Sickness), submit a resident application through NIPR ($20 application fee), and complete a criminal background check before AID approves you to schedule.

What Makes the Arkansas Life & Health Exam Different
Life and Health are separate exams. PSI publishes a different content outline for each, and the pre-licensing certificate must match: PSI's bulletin requires proof of prelicensing education for every attempt on the Life and the Accident, Health and Sickness exams, and Rule 31 sets a separate 20-hour course for each line (Ark. Admin. Code 054.00.06-001).
Approval to test comes first. The sequence in the PSI bulletin is: complete the pre-licensing course, submit the resident application on NIPR, complete the Arkansas criminal background check, wait for AID to review the application, and schedule only after PSI emails your confirmation. Pre-licensing certificates stay valid for two years.
Retake limits are tight. You must pass within 90 days of your original approval date, with a maximum of 3 attempts in that window. If you do not pass in time, you wait four weeks and restart the approval process. Same-day retesting is not allowed. Exam fees are paid to PSI and are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
Classroom-only hours inside the 20. For the Life line, Rule 31 breaks the 20 hours into 1 hour of introductory insurance, 5 hours of Arkansas insurance laws and rules, 5 hours of life insurance basics, 5 hours of policies, options and provisions, 3 hours of annuities, and 1 hour of ethics. The Arkansas laws and ethics hours must be completed in a classroom, and no more than 5 hours per line may be electronic.
Continuing education is tied to your birthday. Producers must complete 24 hours of CE per two-year cycle, including 3 hours of ethics, on or before their birthdate (Rule 50, § 4(A)(1)). The same course cannot be repeated within two years, and resident producers pay a $20 CE filing fee at renewal (Rule 50, § 8).
Federal law shows up on the general part. PSI's outline lists 18 U.S.C. §§ 1033–1034 (the prohibition on persons convicted of certain crimes working in insurance without written consent), the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the National Do Not Call Registry among the federal topics.

Study Tips for the Arkansas Life & Health Exam
Roughly 70 of the 100 scored questions on each exam are general knowledge, so most of your points come from national concepts: contracts and agency, policy provisions, riders, annuities, disability income and medical plans. Do not skip the 30 Arkansas questions, though. They are timed as their own 60-minute part and cover the Commissioner, licensing and CE, the Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association Act and unfair marketing practices.
The bulletin says a candidate needs 70% correct, and PSI's outlines list 70% as the minimum for each timed part. PSI does not say whether the two parts are scored separately, so aim for 70% on both the general and the Arkansas questions rather than relying on one to carry the other. Expect 5 to 10 unscored pretest questions mixed in; you cannot tell which they are, so answer every question carefully.
